Meet The Artist
Lucy McCann, born in 1958, Armidale, New South Wales, is Australian-bred. With a penchant for art, she studied fashion and dress design at The National Art School, which gave her the necessary grounding in design and craftsmanship to become one of the many prolific Australian artists. Along with securing a scholarship to model with June Dally-Watkins, she designed clothing and accessories for the fashion label, Cue. During this time, Lucy was asked to design images with Australian themes for sloppy joes and sand shoes leading her to study screen printing at The National Art School.
She has shared her learnings and love for art by teaching in Australia, New Zealand, Italy and London for 22 years. Lucy loves all things country since she grew up on a fine wool property. Surrounded by space and nature, she learnt the art of observation, appreciating the stillness, interpreting its beauty, and recreating it. Together with her husband Barry McCann, also a renowned Australian artist, she runs McCann Fine Art and teaches in the two studio spaces on their property at Armidale.
The Art Collectors
‘A warm summer afternoon, dancing flora, the beautiful birds, every piece of work, both acrylic and watercolours, captures the freedom, the joy and the nostalgia of my childhood. I look forward to seeing more of her work and representation of Australian art.’
- Nina Davis
‘As a collector of watercolour paintings, I am always looking out for Australian artists whose paintings evoke an emotion, stir up memories of a place or person. That’s what I absolutely love about Lucy’s art. Her interpretation of still life with a backdrop of Australia’s natural beauty. She captures the birds, the flowers, vibrant, in all their glory, juxtaposed with elements from her memories, taking me back to my younger days where we enjoyed afternoon tea with a side of warm laughter.’
